Eden's (pink) birthday! Yesterday we celebrated Eden's third birthday. Every conversation we had with Eden about her birthday, she would say, "My pink birthday! My pink birthday!" and if we ever simply just said "birthday" she would correct us, with her birthday's proper title. Here's what our day looked like. I'd like to try to upload some pictures, but I'm not sure our internet will cooperate.
For breakfast we enjoyed yogurt, granola, and pop tarts- which were a big deal (!) b/c we never get pop tarts around here. Eden was pretty pumped. She loved them. After breakfast we enjoyed some leisurely time hanging out and read some of her favorite stores (the girl LOVES her books). Then we decided to go to the kitchen to make some pink muffins (strawberry jam muffins). I would measure the ingredients and Eden would dump them in the bowl and stir. First I dumped in the flour and then asked Eden what else we should add. And you know what she said? "Baking powder!" She's so smart. We had a lot of fun making the muffins together.
For lunch we went out to eat at a restaurant that actually has a playground! It had a been a while since we'd been there, and Eden absolutely loved going 'really fast' down the big slide. We had a delicious lunch (the pasta was amazing!) and indulged in some cocktails (which are glasses of freshly squeezed juice (usually mango, or papaya) and ice cream. Trust me, they're amazing.
Then we headed back home for a little nap time. After nap time we had a small family birthday party, where we enjoyed the pink muffins. When I asked her what dessert she wanted me to make for her birthday she said pink pudding. So... we had pink pudding as well.
She loved the little dress up set we'd gotten for her. She especially loves the pink 'highheels' (complete with feathers). She's a girly girl. She also enjoyed the many phone calls received from loved ones (today and yesterday lucky girl:).
Today, we continued with the celebrating and shared some cake and juice with our neighbors. She (and the neighbor kids) really enjoyed that. It's always a bit of a struggle for me/us to figure out how to do birthdays here because culturally our friends here don't celebrate birthdays (the majority of people don't know what day they're born on) and Eden has so much more than everyone else, that it's hard to know what to get her. But we still wanted to celebrate our sweet little girl's life and birthdays are important for us culturally too. I think we found a good middle ground:) Today,we were coming in from having cake and juice with the neighbor kids and Eden was helping me bring in the cake platter. There were two pieces of cake left on it. Eden has been learning about hospitality lately, and went over to Papa Clarkson and asked if he would like a piece of cake. He said he did and took a piece of cake. Eden looked at the last piece that was left and bravely walked over to me and asked me if I would like a piece of cake. I told her I wanted her to have it. My heart simply melted. She smiled and sat down and enjoyed her second piece of cake. Love this little girl. Love to see the beautiful ways the Father is already shaping her sweet character. Would she grow to be a woman who loves the Lord and loves to love, serve, and bless those around her! Thank you Father for this precious daughter!

What a little sweetie. Love hearing these things. And I can read them again and again and again. (suddenly I'm reminded how often I give directions at school). Anyway, that sounds like such a sweet birthday. If I'm up early, I'll try calling to talk with you and that little sweetie pie. Pink birthday sounds great. Wish I would have thought of that one. Love you so much, I wanna see pics when your computer/internet's in good order. MUAH MUAH MUAH MUAH
