Hi all! Our internet has been down for a few days so we have much to catch you up on. This video is a view of our trip to Salahley and I think it will give you a good idea of what our adventure was like! It was our first venture out to the rural areas and Eden did great, she was quite a trooper. We visited a number of villages on this trip and were very warmly welcomed. I was surprised by how spread out each village was. I think I have a different definition of what a village is. A village with a population of 3,000 people, for example, might only have about 15 buildings in the village with the majority of the people living some distance away. The villages we visited on this first trip did not have running water (or even water at all in some cases), a market, defiinitely not electricity, and usually limited access to medical care. A personal highlight of this trip was when we stopped seemingly in the middle of nowhere for some fresh goat and rice. It was absolutely delicious. It was also a great peek into a traditional meal here- eaten from a communal dish where your utensil was your hand! Seriously, it was so good. The second trip to the rural areas was attended by Seth, as Eden and I decided to stay home and have a girls' day:) One of the villages that Seth visited on this second trip did have a generator that was on in the evenings to provide electricity. This same village also had a small market area and a health center. We're learning a lot about the world here and we've still got much to learn!
