Happy end of October, which only means one thing- winter is coming. I very strongly dislike winter. I like every other season in Iowa, with this one exception, which is probably why I'm moving to Africa (j/k). I guess there are a few things I enjoy about winter, namely hot chocolate (well any hot beverage for that matter) and peanut butter toast. Delicious.
Eden continues to be an absolute delight. I was talking with a friend last week and we discussed how we absolutely are crazy about our own kids, but aren't necessarily crazy about anyone else's kids. Funny how that works. Eden is getting SO BIG! At her 6 week checkup she weighed 11lbs. 10 oz. and was 23 inches long. Chubby little baby. She's currently sporting some adorable fat rolls on her little legs which prove to be quite the challenge to clean when giving her a bath. She's definitely inherited Seth's appetite, what's also funny is that she makes a lot of noise when she eats as if to say "This is good, this is soo good" (sound familiar:). Her other love is being held. Seriously, awake Eden laying on a blanket or sitting in the swing or bouncer equals mad Eden in about 10 minutes, however, awake Eden laying on mom or dad or is being held equals happy Eden for hours.
One of my greatest joys of being this little lady's mom is watching her learn about her world. She started smiling at us about two weeks ago. A couple Sundays ago, we went to church and put Eden in the nursery. We were given a pager just in case Eden needed some food. We got paged during the service so I hustled from worship to the nursery where I found a slightly fussy (but rather hungry) Eden. So we curled up in the feeding room for a little snack. When we finally got situated Eden looked up a me and gave me the biggest smile I'd ever seen as if to say "You came to get me!" As you can imagine, it totally made my week. Her smile is absolutely precious, I've tried to capture it on camera, but haven't been successful.
We've decided to use cloth diapers with Eden. After A LOT of research we decided on the BumGenius pocket diapers. We've been using them for a few weeks now and they're aboslutely amazing! They are so easy to use and do an incredible job of holding in leaks. Oddly enough we had way more problems with the disposibles leaking than with the cloth. And we've had much less problems with diaper rash. Nice.
It's taken a bit to adjust to our newly expanded family, though it's incredible how natural it all seems. Eden is definitely our biggest distraction (and rightfully so) whenever we're working on stuff. Seth and I were reflecting on how air travel will now be very very different. Seth and I would usually travel with just carry-on items (obviously depending on the trip), now we'll have a car seat, pack-n-play, etc. and A BABY! Oh, and get this- if you're traveling to Canada by air, EVERYONE has to have a passport- even babies. So Eden now has her passport. It was funny filling out her form as we had to list her eye (we still don't know what her eye color is) & hair color and height & weight. Who knew?
Well, Eden is asleep so I think I'm going to take this opportunity to brush my teeth. Ou la la.
