Oh my goodness. I can't believe Eden is almost two weeks old already. She is an absolute delight. And we're crazy about her. I can't believe how quickly I've morphed into super overprotective mom. Seriously, if anyone were to even look at her the wrong way, I think I'd probably punch them. These past two week have been a whirlwind! We arrived home from the hospital on Thursday, September 11th. The pediatrician checked her out before we left the hospital and said she weighed about 7 lbs. 9 oz., which is pretty good considering that she'd only lost about 6 oz. since her birth. At her checkup four days later, on Monday she weighed 8 lbs. 3 oz! Wow, talk about being pudgy! She has a very healthy appetite which we are so grateful for (well, usually, except at maybe 3 AM). She eats so much! I can't believe how much of my time is spent feeding her, but I do enjoy it so. Breastfeeding has been going very well. We had a few days at the end of last week when she was unusually cranky- eventually we figured out that she had some bad gas. We did some looking on the internet and found some different ways we could help her to relieve the gas. Poor thing.
Parenting is such a strange thing, I never though that I'd ever be this tuned into someone's digestion. The past few days have been getting better and we are continuing to get things figured out.
She is really really strong. She rolled from her side to her back on the Saturday after we got home from the hospital. She's holding her head up pretty well right now and rolled over from her back to her belly yesterday (Sept. 20). We're pretty impressed by her.
Seth and I could both use some more sleep. It has been such a blessing to have him home for these past two weeks. I'm going to be sad when he goes back to work. Eden wakes up for feedings about 2-4 times a night. Right now Eden is curled up on Seth with her ankles next to her ears. I couldn't even imagine being able to do that. Hmm, I could use a nap right now.
Before I answer the call of my closing eyelids here's a few things that I absolutely love about her right now...
-How she turns her head when she hears my voice.
-Looking into her beautiful eyes, wondering what she is thinking about.
-Her many facial expressions
-When she farts/poops loudly, it just cracks me up
-Watching her look at her Papa
-Her crazy hair
And so much more. Seth and I have learned so much about ourselves these past few weeks. We realized that we're definitely both extroverts. We just really enjoy having people come over to visit. Before she was born we decided that we'd wanted a couple of days at home with her before the Grandmommies came to help. On the Friday after her birth my sisters and their significant others came up for a visit. It was so good to spend time with them and feel a little more human. That probably sounds strange doesn't it? My mom (Nanners) came to help out from Sunday to Friday (Seth and I even enjoyed a date last Tuesday- wahoo!) and Seth's mom (Ama) came on Saturday and will be here through Wednesday. Just having another set of hands around to help cook, clean, hold baby, has been so incredibly wonderful. Babies are a lot of work (one night my mom slept 11 hours), but what a beautiful blessing. Ok, time for my nap.
