Our first week of October

I know. I'm lame sauce because I never blog anymore. Booo on me. I do a lot of thinking, but am not always so good at writing it down. I like to do it. It helps me to process my life a bit. Thanks for joining my world for a bit.

Favorite meal this week: I made a mean chicken curry. It got rave reviews from everyone, except Mademoiselle Veggie-Spurner.
Favorite quote (from a book): "Accept people just as they are, trusting that God will change them in time. Accepting them as people does not mean you condone their behavior or beliefs. It simply means you respect their humanity enough to let them work through the process." from page 35 of Authentic Relationships by Clay Jacobsen

I asked the kids what their favorite part of the week was. Eden said drinking herbal tea one morning for snack time (my kids are really really weird). Isaaq said "bugs." Nothing more nothing less.

This past week was a busy one. Highlight of my week was probably date night with Papa C. We went to a nearby restaurant and had pizza and ice cream. We're currently re-reading a book we'd received on our wedding, called Men are like Waffles, Women are like Spaghetti. We were reading through the chapter "Spaghetti and Waffles Achieving Together," and had a conversation about our roles in our marriage.  We're enjoying where the Lord has us at currently. I'm happy as a clam to be at home with the kids, and Seth is as happy as a clam knowing I'm at home with the kids and being able to do his job, making us just a bunch of happy clams. Maybe someday I'll want to do something else, like take some classes, gain a new skill, become extra awesome, whatever, but not at this point.

This week I was again reminded of the deep anger so many carry. I won't get into all the details of our conversation, but it broke my heart to hear such harsh untruths. My friend was deeply angry. I saddened me to see how anger blinds, so wholely absorbing ourselves that we can't hear the words true. Anger makes us quite wrapped up in ourselves doesn't it? Consumed with our own rightness, our own thinking, our own deserving.  Though the conversation was exhausting, it brought me close to my Father, as I listened to His heart whispers of love for his beloved here. How desperately does this humanity need to know love and to be loved. How grateful I am to live love here, as hard as it is sometimes.

This week Atira decided that she likes cucumbers which means she officially likes 2 vegetables now- beets and cucumbers. She will reject all other forms of vegetables. She's also walking around a bit now, and has added "Cookies" to her list of verbal repertoire of survival phrases she uses to get through the day to communicate to the ignorant.
Isaaq continues to get dirtier than should be humanly possible. He also has the most delightful imagination. Tonight he came in with his stuffed dog, Chase, balancing on his arm, and said, "Mommy, Chase fell asleep on my arm!" and just roared in laughter. I thought it was hilarious. You might not find it so funny. I've realized that sometimes, you find the things your kids do to be riotous, not everyone else is so inclined. It's ok. I'm ok- you're ok.
Eden has been working diligently for this past few weeks getting ready for her brother's birthday. I think she is actually more excited about it than he is. She even made a countdown chain, counting down the number of days until the big day. She just has so much joy. Jesus, help me not to squash her joy, and ruin her or her brother and sister. It's a hard job being a mommy. I'm so glad He's there to cover over all my mistakes. Today she came to me and said, "Mommy, I have a hole in my heart. I think I need more Jesus in my heart." Sweet girl, we all do. Only he can fill those holes, those holes we try to fill with so many different things in so many different ways. Would he fill those holes in your heart today. Whatever awful thing someone said to you, or said about you behind your back, or whatever other holes have crept their way in let Jesus fill 'em.

I'm thinking the Kristi could make some vegetables that Atira would like. I know that they're Eden's favorites.
