Happy birthday to me! Yesterday we celebrated 27 years of life! It was a wonderful day. The day started off a little rough with our one and a half year old daughter screaming for some reason at 6AM. Usually she's a hefty sleeper but yesterday, something just was not right. It reminded me, when you're a mom, even if it's your birthday, the day still isn't completely about you (perhaps a good lesson I should have learned long ago- life isn't about me:). Handsome hubby blessed me and was awake to help with the screaming child. He is very good to me. I finally got up around 6:30AM, got some birthday kisses from sweet Eden and made some buttermilk pancakes for our family to enjoy! It was great! Eden took me on a birthday walk. We went outside and she held my hand and walked me around. It was so sweet. Then I had many birthday wishes from my friends here (traditionally they don't celebrate birthdays here, so it's kind of special that they make note of it:), and for lunch we enjoyed some delicious laHoe(think like a pancake, but a little different) with some tasty sauce to dip it in (compliments of our house helper). In the afternoon, Seth took me to the Western foods store to pick out some special treats. This was a really big deal. Culturally, the people here don't have much variety in their diet: LaHoe for breakfast with tea, rice or pasta for lunch, and LaHoe with tuna, sauce, or beans for supper. I came from a very priviledged culture that enjoys a great variety of foods, so me in the Western food store was a bit like a kid in a candy store. It was magnificent. I picked out some potato chips, cookies, pickles, some really good juices, Nesquick, and some other things that I can't remember right now. It took me a really long time. It was so fun. I think about food all the time, what food I want to have, what food I'm going to have once we're back in the States, what food I'm going to make, how to make a certain food I want to have - you really wouldn't believe it. Anyways, moving on with more food.
We came back to the house where our delightful friend Jenni (from Canada) joined us for supper and some fellowship time. We had tasty tasty tacos. I love tacos. Jenni totally blew me away by making M&M brownies for dessert and picked up some ice cream for us as well. Did you know I love M&M's? They're really delicious. We had some wonderful time together. Overall it was a wonderful day hearing from many family members and friends (thanks to Skype- woot woot for technology- and living in a place that offers high speed internet)! I felt very loved and very cherished the whole day! I love birthdays!
