Wow. Crazy life these past few weeks. For a few days Seth had been having problems with moving his foot. It was quite strange as he didn't have any previous injuries that may have caused the movement malfunction. After consulting with our doctor, (we're so blessed b/c right now we have a wonderful doctor right across the hall working with us on a health project), he recommended that Seth get a CAT scan. As there are no facilities here that offer CAT scans, Seth went to the American Hospital in Dubai to have some check-ups. It was hard to say goodbye as we didn't know how long he would be gone for. His doctors have ruled out ascending paralysis and depending on the results of his MRI he may return to us later this week. I'm so grateful that we have insurance that covers such expenses. It will be a very wonderful day when he comes back through our front door.
On top of that, Eden has diarrhea. Being around her you'd never know her body wasn't well as she's as happy and as goofy as ever, but I just hate that my little dumpling is not completely well. And, the water pressure in our house has gone from bad to worse, meaning that it takes me like 20 minutes to rinse Eden's dirty diapers, when usually it takes like 5 minutes. I am so grateful that we have access to antibiotics as she seems to be getting better. She's still breastfeeding like it's her job, and ate most of her oatmeal this morning. She loves her oatmeal, just like her mommy.
This week also brought the arrival of a new team member! I think she's starting to get oriented to life here and I believe she'll be a wonderful asset to our team. She is very grace oriented and has been taking the craziness of the past week like a champ. We've been having fun getting to know each other. She's also kindly allowed me to use her laptop in the mornings to communicate with Seth while he's away. I'm very grateful for her generosity. I'm trying hard to remember everything that would be beneficial to know about life here so that I "train" (that's not the word I want to use, but I can't think of anything else) her well. Seth and I co-lead the team and I miss leading with him (though he definitely still working on many team related stuff in Dubai). It's been good for me to realize all the stuff he takes care of for our little family (money exchange, random grocery runs on his way home from work, buying cell phone minutes, etc.) as I've had to take on some of these responsibilities in his absence. And, he is incredibly gifted with learning languages, so he was also much more at ease in communicating in the local language, I've done OK so far in communicating in his absence, but I still miss out on a lot.
To add madness to madness the head security guy (and a few other guys) came over to tell us we needed to move from our home. We're currently living in a duplex-like house with a local family and the security officials didn't think it was safe for us (not b/c the family is unsafe though). They actually told me we needed to move by tonight. I told them I couldn't move without Seth being here, they understood and said we could delay moving until next week or when he returned. Now, there's a rumor that we can stay after all. Who knows.
There's a number of crazy other things that have happened, which I won't go into detail about now. But one thing I've learned for sure over this past week is that I never want to be a single mom. It is a lot of work, and I just have one little one (and she's even a very easy little girl). I miss my dear hubby. The Father has blessed me with an incredible man to call my husband. It seems that the Father has much to teach us during this time. I'm learning a lot, that's for sure, and am hoping that through all this I may more closely bear His image.
Well, I need to go get the grocery list ready for my helper. Much love to all!
