Internet problems. Again. Stink.
A lot has happened in these past few weeks, so I’ll share the highlights!
- Eden has started crawling! She is busy busy busy getting into everything we don’t want her to. Her favorites include our laptop, any cord in sight, and anything that makes a crinkly sound.
-We had some visitors from the States visit our team for a few days! This was especially exciting for me (Emily) as three of the visitors were lovely ladies and I hadn’t had any female company since early February! I got to have some long overdue girl time. One afternoon we went to the local beauty salon to have our hands or feet hennaed. It was a lot of fun and fairly relaxing.
-A massive painful quarter-sized boil appeared on my shoulder. Pain scale about- 7.5 out of 10 (10 is childbirth). It was awful. It hurt so bad. I couldn’t even pick up and play with my little girl without being in pain. The team that was visiting us contacted a dermatologist back in the States. He verified that it was a boil and recommended that we lance it to get the infection out. We bought a bottle of lidocaine and a lance from the local hospital and that evening one of the women visiting who was a nurse cut it open, and got the infection out. There was so much pus. Really really gross. By the next day, my pain was a 0 on the pain scale. I’m so grateful that we were able to get the problem fixed. Apparently, there is no specific cause, boils just pop up from time to time. I hope I never have one again.
-Seth and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary! I can’t believe it’s been three years already. As my mom-in-law reminded us, we’ve covered a lot of ground in three years- Riverside, Mexico, South Korea, China, Turkey, East Africa, and had a baby. We’ve moved 7 times in the past 3 years. Meow! I’m tired just thinking about. But God is good and renews us with streams of strength when needed. It has been a wonderful three years. I’ve married an exceedingly wonderful man. To celebrate our three year anniversary we left our sleeping daughter in the capable hands of our fellow team members and went to the local restaurant. It has fun to celebrate it there because the staff there know us well and were very excited we’d chosen to celebrate our anniversary there. Earlier that day Seth had arranged for the waiters to bring flowers to our table. A friend called on one of the waiters on his cell phone to send his congratulations. They even brought over a candle to our table. It was so special. We feasted on fish and beef kababs and for dessert enjoyed a huge piece of cake and ice cream. We spent time reflecting on the years past and were overwhelmed with His goodness to us. There certainly have been trials, but those trials have birthed profound growth and beauty. Marriage is a blessing. Truly.
-My little sister Erin became engaged to a wonderful man, Eric. I couldn’t choose a better man for my little sister Erin. Individually they are such beautiful people, I can wait to see how marriage will shape them to even more closely bear His image. The wedding date is set for June 19 of next year. I get to be a bridesmaid, Seth gets to be an usher, and little Eden will be the darling flower girl. We’re honored to get to have such a special part in their wonderful day. I think I’ll wear a swimming suit and a cape.
-Of a much lesser interest. I got to make yogurt again! To make yogurt you need a starter (either specially freeze-dried yogurt starter or about a ½ cup of yogurt). Yogurt is just about impossible to find here. We’d found it once and I used that for a while, but eventually the starter got old and I needed a new starter. My wonderful parents sent some goodies along with the team that came to visit and included in those goodies was some yogurt starter! I made some yogurt the other day and it was delicious.
-And, I’m sure lots of other exciting things happened as well but I can’t think of what they were right now. Ciao!
