And here we are! Our first few days in East Africa have been a whirlwind. We left the homeland on December 30th at 8PM and arrived in our new home on January 2nd at around 5:30PM. Wow. All of our flights went pretty smoothly and right on schedule (well, except for our flight out of Djbouti- that one came 3 hours late). On our flight from Chicago to Frankfurt we got to hear our beautiful little girl laugh for the first time (her grandparents actually got to hear her laugh a few days earlier). She did so well. As we look back on those days spent traveling we're amazed at the many ways we were blessed whether from finding out that the gate for our next flight was right next to the gate that we'd just gotten off from or people helping us figure out complicated ticket problems (our flight from Djbouti- our reservations were on their computer, but the computer said our tickets were invalid (?) so numerous people helped us to figure out the best course of action. We could feel the impact of the prayers of so many. We have been warmly welcomed into the community here. People are so interested in our little family. Today we went to the marketplace to pick a few things up. Seth and I got some traditional clothing to wear (incredibly exciting) and we got to have quite a few conversations with people on the street. Our friend Abdellah drove us around and helped us to navigate the shops. Women were walking around selling perfumes and watches. One woman asked us if we could speak Italian, we replied in Spanish and were able to chat a bit, her in Italian and us in Spanish- who'd have guessed? For lunch today we enjoyed a delicious rice/fish dish. This afternoon, we were going to start our language learning, but our helper was unable to come in today. All is well on this part of the world, hope it's the same wherever you find yourself. Much love!
