Ok, week number two. Wow. It's been another amazing week. Truly, God is abundantly blessing us through our time here. We've been able to enjoy some sweet time in the Word and are thouroughly enjoying a life that is slower paced. Last weekend we enjoyed two whole free days. When we were in Korea we enjoyed our Saturdays, but then our Sundays were always busy (though always good) with church, Korean lessons, and Bible studies.
We've been enjoying the simple pleasures of life. I'm loving the ability to bake (as in using an oven again). Last weekend Seth and I worked on planting our garden. Seth reminded me of the wonders of life by reminding me to look at all the insects in the dirt. Truly, it was amazing. The care that God takes in even His smallest creation. Last week I saw a really awesome turtle near the showers. He was big, and old, and amazing. He also had a pretty sweet shell. I found out he was actually an endangered species. I saw an armadillo last week too. Pretty sweet. At first I thought it was a big rat, but then I realized that rats don't have big thick shells.
Another "highlight" of the week was slaughtering a goat. I'd never seen an animal slaughtered before so it was quite the experience, Kerry (another girl here) and I "motivated" ourselves beforehand by reminding ourselves that this actually happens quite frequently, as in, animals getting slaughtered for meat. And I like meat.
We got to hear from a number of missionaries this week who shared about their experiences in Nepal, Haiti, and Guatemala. It's amazing how wide the world is yet still we're all united under Him. What a HUGE God we worship. How I delight in His creativity.
The baby chicks here busted out of their eggs this week. They're little and cute and I like to hold them a lot, except for the fact that they poop a lot. Stink. But they are cute. Hmm, other interesting parts of the week... I know there were many. We've been getting A LOT of rain recently and it's been incredibly humid here, but we'll survive. This week I was on the "Kitchen" lab again which meant that I got to help make all the meals for our village and Seth was on the animals which meant that he got to help feed, brand, and do other important things for the goats, bunnies, chickens, and such. This morning we washed some of our clothes by hand. It was quite the experience and I'm fairly confident that our clothes are somewhat cleaner than when we'd started. It also started to rain while we were washing clothes, but we considered it to be an extra rinse cycle.
This Sunday we're heading to a Haitian worship service. I'm excited. Next week we're also going on an urban mission trip to Orlando for three days. I'm learning so much. I know I say that a lot, but it's true. Ok, I'm going to get going. Thanks for reading. Though we are still pretty busy and may not write/call much- know we love you all and are close to our hearts and prayers! Praise be to Him!
