Today, April 13, specifically in the year 1983 at 12:24AM, there was an event unlike yet completely like any other event of this nature. Yep, you guessed it, I was born. After a long labor, and a lot of pushing (unfortunately the two most heavily involved with the pushing were pushing in opposite direction) and an unfortunate C-section, I made my appearance into the world. What a glorious day. Actually, now that I think about it, I really don't know many of the details of my birth. I'll talk to Nanners. She'll know.
Today, I'm the big 2-4. I'm excited. My day started off with breakfast in bed, by candlelight. My awesome husband made a HUGE breakfast for me including but not limited to: banana pancakes with syrup, Korean english muffins, a pineapple pastry, a cherry filled donut, baby bananas, apples, rice cakes, a chocolate-chocolate chip muffin, a pumpkin cookie, mango juice, another type of donut, chai, cheesy eggs, and probably some other tasty treats that I'm forgetting. Here's the kicker, he had to make everything by candlelight. We have a studio apartment so if he would have turned on the lights I would have woken up. Isn't he amazing? And he doesn't even get mad at me if I accidentally use his toothbrush (definitely happened last night:). And if that weren't enough, he delivered flowers and chocolate to my work, and got a sweet potato cake (amazing by the way) for us to enjoy. Oh, how I am blessed by him. I am one lucky girl. Though I'm now 24 years old, I still want every day to be my birthday, kind of. Tomorrow we're going to Daegu to do "something unique." I'm not sure exactly what we're doing though I'm sure it will be a great time.
Other than that, life here is going very well. It is passing by quickly, for sure. We're getting our vacations planned out and figuring out what else is on our "must do/eat" list. We're planning to head to Jeju Island for our one year anniversary and would really love to take a jaunt over to China to see the Great Wall. I'm continuing to perfect many Korean dishes and am increasingly realizing that I can make Korean food better than I can American food. I'm really not even joking or exaggerating. This week new foods have graced the Clarkson tabletop. Foods such as kimchi bokumbap (kimchi fried rice), kimbap (veggies rolled in rice and seaweed), stuffed green peppers, and tossed cucumbers. And, they all were really good. I have a long ways to go before the kimbap looks like it should. Right now, they look like a 1st grader found a green fruit roll-up and tried to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with rice using chopstick. Ok, I'm tired of writing now, it's kind of weird writing and not knowing who is reading it. Oh well, I kind of like it.
To close I'd like to close with a great quote I read recently: "I resolve to endeavor to my utmost to act and think as if I had already seen the happiness of heaven and the torments of hell."~ Jonathan Edwards. "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from teh dead and Christ will shine on you." ~ Ephesians 5:14. Yep, live now. Don't wait for another day/month/year to pass. No more excuses. Live boldly.
