The things that I've (Emily dizzle here) learned (or re-learned) since coming to South Korea four months ago. In no particular order...
- I love sweet potatoes.
- Anything with pumpkin in it is also quite tasty.
- My arms are very weak.
- I'm really not a very patient person.
- Some days I wonder if I really married a sage.
- God does not desire for life to be easy or comfortable, but abundant.
- I really do like dakbokgee and kimchee
- Heated floors are a great idea.
- I do not always know what is best for my sisters.
- God sustains, even when I don't think he does.
- It is not easy to live so far from family and friends, but not impossible.
- It really boils my britches when I hear someone say, "Wow, I could never live so far from my family- I'm too close to them." What, and I'm not close to my family?
- Sometimes anger is the healthiest emotion to experience.
- My husband's face smells really nice.
- I'm a very prideful person, which often gets in the way of language acquisition.
- Rude people really bother me.
- I can make myself laugh more than anyone else can.
- Life isn't fair, as much as I'd like some people to change, I just can't change them.
- Some people just don't care if they cause another pain or tears.
- Rationalizing sin is easy, but God's standard is perfection. Do I care enough about the person next to me to point out their sin or do I call it what it is not?
- Fasting is a blessing, not an obligation.
- Sometimes my sense of smell gets confused.
- I love to be with people but I need time alone too.
- E-mails and messages from family and friends brighten my heart more than ever before.
- I'm used to being encouraged a lot. Now I wonder if I'm too dependent on the praises of men and lack a dependence upon God's opinion.
- English is a very difficult language to learn.
- I really do enjoy working with kids.
- The Korean language is very difficult.
- I miss running.
- I don't really miss American food that much. There are a few exceptions of course and are as following yet not limited to- my mom's homemade noodles, Em's buns, ice cream, brownies, skim milk, Tacos Arabes, Reeces, steak, oatmeal with chocolate chips.
- I delight in diversity and creativity.
- I hate wearing panty hose.
- Eating with chopsticks really isn't that difficult.
- I love to ravel.
- Airplane rides bring me great joyo.
- I am an unique person.
- I need to grow in discipline.
- Sometimes I talk very fast.
- My English skills are getting worse.
- I like coffee, but only Korean coffee.
- Korean pears are incredible.
- Seth is perfectly capable of cutting hair.
- I often have conversations in my head and I forget that I didn't actually have them with another person.
- Sweet potato pizza is an excellent idea.
- I pack heavier than most Koreans.
- Global warming is BIG. Global warming is SCARY. We can't afford to just sit back and watch.
- For the first time in my life, I actually have a need to iron. This is a smidge ironic because it is also the first time in my life that I do not have access to an ironing board.
- Direct confrontation is not always a bad thing. Because "saving face" is extremely important in Korean culture (and many other Asian cultures for that matter) rather than bringing a concern directly to the person he/she will bring their concern to their supervisor. I can now more fully appreciate the value to dealing with an issue/problem "head-on."
- I am truly blessed by my husband.
- Yepuda means "pretty" in Korean.
